Planning a road trip with your friends is great fun; choosing where you're going, all your stops in between and who gets to come in your car of dreams. One of my favourite things though - & i'm sure its yours too - is making the beloved playlist. Back in the day it would be a case of staying up all night burning your favourite 20 songs (if you were lucky and the disk was big enough) to a CD and praying to god it worked in the car CD player. It was probably the hardest decision in your life narrowing down your favourites to just 18-20 songs. & the worst part after finally making it, and writing "DJ Gemma's Jamz 2K6" in sharpie, for it to come up with "Error, CD cannot be read".
How technology has moved on and now we have the luxury of being able to plug in our phones or iPods and connect to our favourite music apps and play HUNDREDS of songs!
But even now there is always a fight over who is DJ on a road trip - everyone wants to show off their finest road trip anthems and set the mood. I personally have great taste in music if I do say so myself & live for keeping my Spotify playlists spick & span! I get a thrill from deleting and re-organising my entire music library because yes, I have no life. I used to be an iTunes whore and kept it in check before coming to Australia - I soon hated not being able to update my library with new songs without having to pay for each song (um, no thanks!). Without my laptop I was unable to download all my music in a not-so-legal way so was soon introduced to the wonders & magic of Spotify. I can confidently say it changed my life & now results in me spending a fortune topping up my data on my phone but I can't go without my music.
I have a wide range of home-made playlists on my Spotify from Golden Oldies, Chill Vibes to one of my personal favourite; The Debby Downers. But whenever I feel a road trip coming on I always make sure I get a playlist prepped just incase i'm called up to DJ. There are so many pre-made playlists on Spotify for road trips, but these are just a selection of some of my must-have road trip anthems:
1. The Killers - Mr Brightside
2. Train - Hey Soul Sister
